2008 Board of Directors
Blaine LeRoy, Co-Chair, Community Connections Committee
With a background in market research, public opinion polling and strategy, Blaine LeRoy has worked with Fortune 500 companies in a wide range of industries. As vice president of sales and marketing and a senior consultant for Growth River, a management consulting firm focused on strategic alignment for business growth, Blaine facilitates strategic sessions and coaches executives.
A PHRPS member for the past two years, she sees networking as the biggest benefit of being involved with PHRPS.
"I like being associated with a major association and the relationships I'm developing. I love the continuous learning and best practices we discover."
As co-chair with Shelley Potente, the Community Connections committee creates professional development opportunities for PHRPS members through volunteering in the Philadelphia area, either to expand their individual experience base or to contribute their expertise to the Human Resource profession and/or the community. Currently, there are two ways to get involved: – mentoring for new HR professionals and a series of interviewing skills workshops for high school students enrolled in the vocationally-oriented Philadelphia Academies programs, in collaboration with the Philadelphia Public School District.
She and Potente are also involved with Drexel University's LeBow College of Business, working on providing mentors for MBA students, participating in Interview Practice Day and a mock job fair, having PHRPS members spotlighted in LeBow's MBA Newsletter, providing opportunities for PHRPS members to speak and teach in MBA classes and on speaker panels, and connect MBA students with internship opportunities at PHRPS member companies.
"Helping the industry is important," LeRoy says. "I think there is a greater need for HR professionals to be business partners. I also see a continued need for executive coaching, because with technology, managers have too much tactical work and not enough time to develop leaders for their organizations. I think companies have focused too much on cost cutting in the last decade and now it's time to focus on growth."
LeRoy enjoys participating in a variety of sports and lives in Malvern, Pa.
