2008 Board of Directors
Robin Rodin, Public Relations Co-Chair
Originally studying to be a high school guidance counselor, Robin S. Rodin of The Rodin Group, has “graduated” to bigger and better things.
“My first job in HR was as an HR assistant at an industrial valve company. Form there, I spent more than 27 years in the pharmaceutical industry. I left it a couple of years ago to start my own business – and to take with me parts of my position that I loved. My current passion is coaching leaders to be more effective and successful in their roles. My success is due to quickly understanding clients and their objectives, tapping into their passion, and partnering with them to design and implement creative alternatives.”
Having been an active PHRPS member for the last seven years, Rodin maintains a network of friends “who can speak my language and whom I can share knowledge and experiences. Furthermore, I can share my learning and steal shamelessly from others!”
In addition, it gives her a chance to give back.
“I’ve mentored junior HR professionals; helped the Philadelphia School of the Future set up their mentoring program. and I plan to provide interview training to students in the inner city. That’s really rewarding.”
Robin has held a number of board positions and now co-chairs PHRPS’ public relations committee (along with Shawn Kent Hayashi), to enhance the visibility and credibility of the organization within the profession and in the community. In addition, Rodin co-chairs the Main Line Local Area Network and is starting up a community of practice on executive coaching with fellow Board member Richard Marcus.
“We have come full cycle in HR,” she says. “HR has to prove that they can earn a seat at the table…more as a business driver than a business partner. When times are lean, there’s more efforts to consolidate HR as a shared service and to outsource the rest.”
Among Rodin’s many loves is travel, theater, trying new restaurants and exercising. In addition, she is active in several non-profit organizations, including serving on the advisory board for a baby boomer study, and as a volunteer at the Career Wardrobe. She has two children, Nicole, 27, and Brian, 21, and lives in Bryn Mawr, Pa., with her husband of 36 years, Lew, and two golden retriever siblings, Rhett and Tia.
