Support for HR Leaders in Transition

The PHRPS leadership is acutely aware of the hardships that the current recession has created for HR leaders, their firms, our community and the country.  A number of our current members are in transition and many former members have allowed their memberships to lapse as a result of economic hardships.  Further, prospective new members that are in transition have told us that our dues are just not in their budgets at such a difficult time.

We also know that professional networking is the most important strategy for securing new employment.  Our organization has always distinguished itself as a warm and welcoming body of HR thought leaders. Many of our members have told us that the professional networking before and after our meetings is as valuable as the programs themselves.

We think it is vital that we not cut off important networking channels to our members and prospective members based solely on dues considerations so we are implementing the policy detailed below.

Please share this new policy with all the appropriate members and prospective members.  We certainly want to support the HR community in these trying times.

PHRPS Support for Members and Potential Members in Transition

Current Members:

Any dues paying PHRPS members who find themselves in career transition at the time of their renewal will have their annual dues waived for that year or until the member secures full-time employment.  This would entitle these members to website access, committee memberships, LAN activities, and all other rights and privileges accorded to members.  However, members in transition who do not pay their annual dues will be responsible for paying half the guest fee of $25 (that is, $12.50) to attend any chapter events.

Potential New Members:

PHRPS also recognizes that many potential members may be reluctant to join due to financial considerations.  Accordingly, subject to being approved as a new member in the typical new member screening process, any senior level human resources professional in career transition can be approved for membership with no dues requirement until that member secures full-time employment or for a period of six months, whichever comes first, with the privileges detailed in the paragraph above.  Members in this status are responsible for the full guest fee at chapter events.

There is an expectation that when a member in transition secures full time employment that they pay their full member dues with that date serving as the start of their rolling membership year.

There will be no retroactive dues reimbursement or membership year extensions to those members that may have qualified for dues relief under this policy but are already current on their dues.
