LOCAL AREA NETWORKS (LANs)
Local Area Networks are designed for PHRPS members. They serve the purposes of affiliation, easy access to members, smaller groups for discussion and networking. The LANs are geographically defined to enable participation near your home or place of employment.
Meetings are typically scheduled in the early morning to enable members to go to work from the meeting.

Topic: “Best practices in background screening – an Update for HR professional
Program description: “The need to hire the best possible talent during these challenging economic times is critical. Many employers realize today that the quality of the employee recruitment and selection process affects the bottom line. So, what are the best practices in employee background screening and how can employers maximize their investment? We will cover some of the key ethical and legal obligations of employers concerning background screening, including the rights of applicants, the use of social media and making adverse employment decisions.”
Leon’s background: Leon is the principal and founder of First Contact HR, based in Fort Washington, PA and specializing in employment background screening, substance-abuse testing and HR consulting. His company recently launched MyPartTimePRO.com, an internet recruiting web site that connects talented professionals with flexible job opportunities. Prior to launching First Contact HR, Leon held HR leadership positions in small emerging to fortune 50 organizations, including Vice President of Human Resources for BTG International, Inc. and Director of Human Resources at Bristol-Myers Squibb. In 2009, Leon was nominated for the Delaware Valley HR Person of the Year, and was one of the recipients of the Philadelphia Business Journal’s 2009 Minority Business Leader Award. He is also currently President of the Greater Valley Forge Human Resource Association.
