Message from Our President
President's Message to PHRPS Membership:
These days many of our colleagues find themselves stressed. Many are out of work, or feeling the anxiety of potential job loss. For those in our communities who have been impacted by the extreme economic conditions, I want to offer my support and encouragement to you.
We at PHRPS are looking for ways we can be of practical assistance. In the short term we are redoubling our efforts to improve our website (http://www.phrpg.org/). We will work to update the site, and in particular the job opportunities section, on a more frequent basis. Our monthly programs, besides being excellent education experiences, have always been an opportunity for professional networking. And these days a strong network is more critical than ever. You never know what connections you might make. So please check the website for the schedule and join us at an upcoming PHRPS program, and invite a guest!
Here are some of the activities and improvements we will be making in the upcoming months.
Programs: Our theme for the year is Leadership Alignment and Employee Engagement. We just completed our first ever webinar titled: From Command and Control to Connect and Collaborate, an excellent program that highlighted the benefits of innovative organizational design.
September's program entitled Human Coordination Technology will focus on a methodology to establish alignment across organizational boundaries through coordinated action. Visit our website for the full schedule of 2009 programs. Click here to see the full schedule of programs for 2009.
The 2009 Leadership Forum: In two years, the PHRPS Leadership Forum has become a must-attend event for the Philadelphia-area senior HR community. After a very successful program in 2008 with Jim Kouzes, our planning committee has been hard at work to provide what will prove to be a very innovative 2009 Leadership Forum. Watch for more information in the fall.
Membership: Like other professional organizations, PHRPS membership has felt the pinch of the current economic crisis. But our membership numbers are strong. PHRPS is still a great way to help you connect and add value to the community. We have been listening to you and have instituted a new rolling admissions procedure. So when you sign up as a new member, you won't have to renew until your one year anniversary date.
Sponsorship: 2009 will be a challenging year for acquiring sponsors and sponsorship dollars, so we have revised the sponsorship level features and benefits. If you are part of, or know of an organization that would derive value from one of our forms of sponsorship, please contact Charlie Huntington, our Sponsorship Chair. You may also direct potential sponsors to our website where they can apply online.
Community Connections: Our Mentoring Program for future HR leaders is in full swing. Both early-in-career HR professionals and their respective Philadelphia-area organizations benefit from this program. Our Interview Skills program provides high school young adults with an opportunity to hone their skills as they consider college and the job market. Through a partnership with Drexel University's LeBow College of Business, the University Alliance program offers opportunities for PHRPS members to share their expertise and knowledge with MBA students. Mentoring and preparation for their next steps into the workforce provides guidance as these students plan to contribute to the business community.
Public Relations: This year look for our new Speakers and Experts Bureau of PHRPS members. The Bureau aims to enhance the visibility of PHRPS and its members. Through this service we will share the rich expertise of our organization by providing panel members and speakers for local events including PHRPS programs. We will promote our speakers in the media and to the Philadelphia-area business community.
Special Interest Groups (SIG): Our first SIG, Executive Coaching, was established for experienced and practicing executive coaches to share and compare ideas, practices, methods and tools. It meets on the third Friday of each month. Contact Richard Marcus or Robin Rodin for more information.
We will be forming a special group comprised of the Philadelphia area's top HR executives called The PHRPS Executive Forum. This multi-industry group will have the opportunity to network on timely, strategic business issues of common interest. It will also be a think tank for future innovative PHRPS programs.
Local Area Networks: Our network of LANs is alive and well and meeting in an area near you. The local area networks are an opportunity to share information, do a deep dive discussion on speaker topics, and learn and leverage the professional expertise of other PHRPS members. Check our website for the latest schedule.
PHRPS is the premier organization for exchanging ideas and knowledge among the Greater Philadelphia Region's human resource leaders. I invite you to take advantage of our programs, activities and of course, our network. I encourage you to think about how you can play a direct role in making PHRPS a stronger organization for all of us.
Thanks for your support.
