Credibility and visibility are important to all of us whether we are representing an organization or ourselves. Business executives and consultants are expected to be experts who show up ready to impact others with their communication. Learning how to manage visibility is a vital skill for all of us. Whether you are being called on by journalists to provide your organization's views on newsworthy policy issues or attempting to get positive visibility for your company, you are more frequently serving as critical business partners with your organization's external communications, and shareholder relations teams.
This interactive program features a distinguished panel of journalists who will discuss how to work strategically with the media. The program will be moderated by media and public relations expert Gregg Feistman, Principal of Strategic Communications Consulting. Topics will include:
- What do you do when a reporter contacts you?
- What is a reporter looking for when he/she calls and asks you to comment on a particular event or development?
- How do you obtain favorable publicity about your HR team or human resources initiatives?
- What strategies should you employ when there’s potentially damaging news about your organization?
Please join us on Tuesday, September 16, 7:30-10:00 am at the ACE Conference Center in Lafayette Hill, PA for this outstanding kickoff to our 2008-2009 workshop series.

RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM
Seeking Cultural Common Ground: Understanding Cultural Paradigms to Enhance Intercultural Competence

November 18, 2008
7:30 - 10:00am
NOTE: This has been rescheduled as a morning program.
Conference Center at Penn State Great Valley [Map]
30 E. Swedesford Road
Malvern, PA 19355
About the Program: Most research in global and intercultural management focuses on national culture and/or emphasizes problems associated with cultural differences rather than the opportunities presented by cultural similarities. Dr. Denise Potosky proposes a framework for understanding culture similarities and maximizing those to create more productive business relationships and effective interaction in organizations.
In the proposed framework, intercultural competence requires an ability and a willingness to find areas where certain facets of one's cultural paradigm overlap with other people's paradigms. In particular, an interculturally competent person is willing and able to:
- Withhold or restrain personal facets that are not helpful or relevant in a given intercultural situation,
- Optimize commonalities and explore ways to make common facets relevant, and
- Seek adjustments when confronted with relevant cultural differences that present real barriers to interaction and goal accomplishment.

About the Speaker: Denise Potosky, Associate Professor of Management and Organization, earned her Ph.D. in Industrial Relations and Human Resources from the School of Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers University.
The goal of her research program is to facilitate better decision-making, more satisfying and productive talent management, and more effective leadership in organizations. Her research has been published in numerous leading journals, including the Academy of Management Review, Personnel Psychology, the International Journal of Selection and Assessment, and the Journal of Applied Psychology, and she has provided research and consulting solutions for several private and public organizations.
Dr. Potosky is active member of the Academy of Management and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and she teaches graduate courses in human resource management, organizational behavior, and leadership at Penn State University's School of Graduate Professional Studies.
Plan to join us on Tuesday, November 18 for this informative session.
