History & Organization Founded in 1979 as an affiliate of the Human Resource Planning Society, we first held monthly roundtable discussion meetings. Over the years we grew in scope, size, sophistication, and reputation. Today we are guided by a volunteer Board of Directors, and have several standing committees. We rely heavily on the active involvement and creativity of our members who continuously advance our association.

We are committed to improving organizational performance by creating a network of professionals
who work as business partners in the application of strategic human resource practices. We strive to support our members on three levels:

  1. professional enhancement for members
  2. increased effectiveness for the organizations that our members support
  3. advancement of our profession

The Philadelphia Human Resource Planning Society is the premier human resource forum in the Greater Philadelphia Region for learning, exchanging ideas, and anticipating the future in today’s rapidly changing world.

As of December, 2008, the PHRPS membership is comprised of over 300 senior level practitioners representing diverse industries including life sciences, health-care, business services, manufacturing, and higher education. Our membership spans the functional expertise of talent management, organizational development,
leadership effectiveness, employee relations, and strategic planning.
  • 40% of the membership hold a corporate title of VP, SVP, EVP or Chief Human Resource Officer
  • 25% of the membership serve as CEO, President, or Principal of their organization
  • 80% of the membership has more than 20 years of experience in human resource management
